Years we have had

There are always those little bit of moments that reminded us that life is sweet. Like a couple of days ago, colleague of mine asked about some Sentinel stuff, and someone responded swiftly because he just went through the exact same thing. When I teased him about it, since he ended up not going with the client he's checking the Sentinel with, he said, "This is why I believe everything in life happens for a reason." It made me stopped, and smile, and felt that little reminder that yeah life mysteriously works that way.  Yesterday, I watched a movie called All The Bright Places, starred Elle Fanning. I watched her YT video on Variety channel -Actor on Actor- with Jenna Ortega and I was impressed by how she carries herself throughout the talk, so young yet so mature. Jenna Ortega also did the same, with more vulnerable emotions displayed and I can totally feel her. But "Wednesday" is already my favorite Netflix series, so I've seen Jenna. But Elle Fanning? Hav...

Bliss attack

I almost forgot how Thai movies actually lighten up my mood. Started with Phobia 2, ATM, BTS (Bangkok Traffic Love Story), Love of Siam, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and Hello Stranger. They looked like Korean movies but with less intensity and drama. Always light, fluffy and easily digestible. So last night I was betting my luck and found this movie with interesting synopsis. FIRST KISS. One office working girl met one high school boy who stole her first kiss. #eeeaaaa. Right up my alley, ladies and gentlemen! Hahahahahaha. Here here,  berondong kinyis-kinyis. Objectively speaking, this movie is no better than standard Indonesian cheesy lousy acting movies in cinemas. But I like the idea of them exploring the idea. Hahaha. Sounds complicated but it’s not. The story is so-so. The humor is basic. The actors were yeah well..  But it’s still nice to watch. Hahaha. Another movie that successfully fished out the laughter out of my throat was The Avengers. Yes, I’m so last ...

Screen Time

Okay. Off we go with several movies I’ve noted as movies that left me wanting more with creepy-haunted feeling and obviously deep impression. Firstly, CONFESSIONS . It’s a Japanese movie and it won several awards since its debut in 2010. I have to admit I paid little attention to this one and that’s why it’s sitting for quite a while in my external drive. But hell yeah it delivers. Damn, I LOVE school-based movies. Like I always said. Over and over. It might be something in the water I drink, I guess. Not to mention this movie is a dark themed one. Oh what have I done to deserve this privilege? *whispering thank you to in-charge upstairs* It’s basically about confession from string of people, started with one female homeroom teacher. It’s about the death of her child. Ruled as accident by the cop, she took things into her own hands. It’s really amazing how high the juvenile rate is in Japan and to connect it to the bullying-suicidal reference, so interesting. I love it. I love c...

Flipped

Image
Okaiy.. here goes nothing.. FLIPPED (2010) is strongly recommended to you guys who's a bit tired of deep-mind-analysis and/or serious-case-of-special-effect kind of movie, such as Inception, Black Swan, Transformers, Twilight (pfttt!), etc. This one gathered the rating 7.5 in IMDB  and achieved 9/10 rating from yours truly. It's about a girl named July Baker, an eight grade middle schooler, who conveniently believes that one day, her neighbor Bryce Loski will kiss her. And this one is formatted as she-said-he-said type of narrative. Juli is the adventurous and interesting one. Bryce just wants to fit in at their Junior High School. Juli slowly begins to unlike Bryce and Bryce slowly begins to appreciate Juli. Will they ever meet at the same emotional place at the same time? That is the drama and story. It's super fresh despite the oldies background, and maybe it came in the right moment when things are seriously high-tech these days. Having a crush no l...

Harry Potter syndrome

Image
In order to welcome the latest and the last *sob* Harry Potter fiesta this year (yeah well, part 1, that is), I indulge myself into long lost obsession of the cast pictures... you know, like my own version of "Where are they now"-show... Huhuhuhu, gonna miss them so freakin much.. Rupert Grint Now emerge as the hunky-bulky-tally buddy version of Ronald Weasley, he and the other member of the movie had somehow left their cutie innocent self and now appears as a (rather) awkward celebrity persona (or so I said). Anyhow, the left picture (though I'm not really sure whether it has been photoshop-ed or not) is the one represent him the best at Hogwarts. I mean, the movie rarely presents him as a fine young man, maybe because of the red hair, I dunno. But that pic, yumm.. cute! So there you go, the once-adorable Ron Weasley. Daniel Radcliffe Once the uber-cute Harry Potter with a bright blue eyes, round glasses, proportional face and not too big of a head, but ...

Hurt Locker

Image
This is the second time I actually enjoyed an Oscar-winning movie. And this time it's The Hurt Locker. Like I said, I never heard of this movie production until it won The Oscar. And it took me quite some time to spare it and give it a try. Yeah, well.. not bad. Interesting plot line, or should I say, interesting theme? It's like watching Die Hard with sand background. The movie's scope is really tight, giving us a peek of how bomb squad actually worked in the war zone, and this time, the war zone being Iraq. The thing that actually poke my interest was when they found a body bomb. Wow, how on earth could people possibly do such thing? How? Really hope that the boy being killed has nothing to do with the bomb insertion, or is it they kill the boy so the could plant the bomb? That's freaking insane! Still has no idea what were they thinking. Are these guys even human? Do they really think they'll go to heaven (or receive some sort of reward afterward in the after lif...

Oscar and Biggie Movies

Image
People said pictures worth a thousand words, so what would be better than a bunch of interesting art-defined pictures taken by New York Times to describe my contented movie-watching experience this year? Avatar. One big fantasy movie with detailed art graphic and marvelous creature. The plot line was so-so, but I figured they deserved the recognition. Sam Worthington transformed in this movie, I hardly recognized him once he changed his hairstyle over and over again. Tsk tsk. Up In The Air. Sweet movie! Love the effortless act of George Clooney in this one, especially when his shot was up-close in the picture, great face line, anyway. The Blind Side. Anyone had this one yet? I searched for it like crazy since like 5 months ago but til now I haven't go it... yet.. Inglorious Basterd. Yay, this guy won the Oscar. So happy for him, my all-time favorite for bad guy. Brothers. Again, I haven't got my hand on this one T_T Why is it movies I looked for since half years ago suddenly h...

Foreign Movies

Image
He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (France) Well, I gotta admit I didn't expect too much from this movie. Ever since I watched Love Me If You Dare, I expected none less than ambiguous and hard-to-understand movie plot. Like any French movie. So when I saw the first 20 minutes of it, I hate to admit I thought it's a so-so one, UNTIL.. jreng jreng jreng, the plot suddenly took major table-turning. I honestly and literally had my eyes opened since I saw it in office late night waiting for my colleague to wrap up her job, thus it's a lil bit sleepy time. Eiyyy, I like it at instant! You need to saw it, Mademoiselle Audrey Tatou strikes once again. Hehehehe, it's about desperation of one young girl whose love been wasted by some jerk cardiologist doctor. Or so you thought. The Tidal Wave (Haeundae) (Korea) I heard this one made it into box office in Korea, so I thought what harm could be possibly done by trying to take a peek on it? And regret I not, since it is one memorable mo...

Milestoney

Figures, after all this time I was occupied by my job, I lost sense of my movie-watching-progress. And I mean cinematic movies, not the usual drama-drama. So, after quick skimming on several movie database websites, I gathered this current to-watch list, although the funny thing is I can't quite remember whether I had actually seen the movie or is it just my imagination. Donnie Brasco (simply because I love Depp's movies) The Blind Side (some says this one is sweet to watch in 2009) Inglourious Basterds (some says this one is the best summer movie in 2009) The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (again, simply because it's Depp) Remember The Titans (Denzel, what else?) Deja Vu (again, Denzel, what else?) Schindler's List (the plot, intriguing) The Usual Suspect (I knew I've had this movie sometime in my laptop, but suddenly it's gone, so here we are on the treasure-hunt once again) City of God (crazy, I've never been able to find the perfect time to wat...

Gory

Ooookay.. So couple of weekends ago I managed to watch two thriller movies. The Last House on The Left and Drag Me To Hell. The Last House on The Left Ooh, I was so excited about this movie ever since I saw its trailer back when I was a child *halah* It is merely a classic horror movie, only this time the blood spilled not from the victim but from the evil doer. Yay! It's about one family taking avenge after some criminals raped and shot their daughter. The mom and dad in this movie was so freaking cool, I could barely take my eyes on them since the very start till the very end. Amusing, so many blood spilled it almost filled up my hunger upon this sort of movies. Satisfying! Great job.. It even got a very nice cliche touch at the ending. Wow. From hammer in the head to the shot in one eye, they were all done very well in this movie. Nice special effect, I figure that covered the minimum casts in the movie. Dude, there are only 10 person playing in this one. So cost effective. Drag...

Hurray

There are particularly two movies that I am currently eyeing. First, the infamous best-seller-book, Eat Pray Love and secondly, Valentine's Day . Why? Here's the reason why, for the first movie, I read the book and I simply love it (except for the last part where she wrote about gold-digging Balinese woman who seemed very ungrateful and greedy, but she blame it on the culture, bleh!). I like the honest writing style of hers and her sense of moronic humour. She refers to Elizabeth Gilbert, the writer. And then, all of those are added with the fact that her character is going to be played by none other than Julia Roberts. Damn lucky woman. Who would've thought your own-character will be played by someone as famous as Mrs. Roberts? Not only that, character 'Felipe' - the man she met in Bali, who lived there for over than 5 years - will be played by Javier Bardem. Hellooo? That sexy guy is actually going to visit my country, dude! *grinning* Anyway, aside from the fact...

Movieeees of August

*yawn* How so heavily sleepy I am. Damn the whole conversation about men’s and women’s game last night. After the crazy non-skinny dipping incident yesterday, I thought I may deserve a bit of rest. Anyway, for the sake of my sanity, these were the high note movies that I’ve seen in the past couple of weeks. The Boy in Stripped Pajama At first, I watched it with a bit of uninterested mood actually. Since I’ve seen Beautiful Life and many kinds of Nazis movies, I expected this one was no different than the others. It was less dramatic than I thought, and the tragedy was not up to my par, actually. But it got a nice quite ending, no blood spill, though. Too bad. The Boy in Stripped Pajama was about a friendship between German’s Arian and Jews kid. Their world was separated by an electrical fence and different dress code. This odd friendship grew into something else entirely. The End. Still, I loved the prolog note; the world of children is filled with color and music until the reasoning o...

Fireproof

Image
If I haven't told you that you are a good man, you are.. If I haven't told you that I have forgiven you, I have.. If I haven't told you that I love you, I do.. Dang, it's been so long since I wept over movies like this one. Last time I remember, I cried upon Evan Almighty for the very same reason, because I believe something touches me. Something beyond my thought, my conscious, my imagination. It might be God. It might. Anyway, Fireproof is a movie that has been circled around my office for quite some time, but I didn't get the mood or time to watch it. Then, I found the very same movie in my friend's laptop, and it's kinda startled me. What exactly is this movie all about? It's not a mainstream movie, I suppose. You just know it. From the directing, the music theme, the camera angle. Even the plot is quite cheesy. At least that was what I thought at first. It's about two people worked out their marriage. And the father in-law gave the hu...

The Secret Life Of Bees

Image
I haven't seen a movie for such a long time since I dedicated my savings to watch Harry Potter VI. That's why I only watched it in my laptop instead. And so far there hasn't been anything that actually took my interest, well other than Perfume The Story Of A Murderer, so far. Hence, when I saw this movie, The Secret Life Of Bees, I was immediately entranced by its delicate plot and cast. Hell yeah, there's Dakota Fanning, but there's also Paul Bettany, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, and even that guy from 90210. I like the subtle message it carried on. Even every little thing could use some love, and there's nothing in this world are unlovable. Sweet. It's about a girl who, obviously, felt like she's unwanted and wanted to find the solace, the redemption place where she could find the answer, and the peace. She killed her own mother when she was four years old, so those kind of things should be expected nonetheless, right? Anyway, it's ...

Honey And Clover

Image
That's the one most amazing -sugoi- Nihongo series I've ever watched. And I loosely define myself as a quite serious case of a dorama viewer. Out of every Nihongo dorama that I've been watching for so long, Honey and Clover effortlessly grabbed my attention. The plot and directing were excellent, the actors/actresses playing were great; the soundtrack was a marvelous job, and the whole scene were was -really enjoyable to watch. I laughed and I cry during the whole season. Honey and Clover was mainly about the friendship between five people, three boys and two girls, in which one of the girls was a newbie to that university. And they studied art, a major I long for quite some time now. How great is that? Anyway, I watch the movie version first, the one that according to my friends was pretty tedious and boring, but not to me. Have no idea why, but even in the movie version, there's something about it that really linked to my life. Or so I thought at that time, considerin...

Movies impressions

Image
Okay, this is so outdated for Troy has been in my laptop for like centuries and I just made the effort to watch it recently. Having watched Troy, my first impression (and unfortunately, it lasted) was Paris being such an unimportant character in that Great War between Troy and Greece. For god’s sake, he can't fight, he never killed anyone, he kept boasting about love and honor, and he put his family and nation in danger just because of one unimportant girl. Bikin marah de nontonnya. Such a lousy coward yang mengumbar-ngumbar kata cinta dmana-mana, cih! Thank heavens this character is played by Orlando Bloom. In the other hand, both character Hector and Achilles were such impressive personas, they made me stay watching it till the end. Yay for Brad Pitt's butt all over the movie =P I mean, we all got to admit, he /is/ one sexy daddy =D And next, having watch lots of Brad Pitt's movie these days, I need to admit that he is one talented actor. In Burn After Reading , he played...

Seeing, watching, imagining

Image
Tristan And Isolde Hm, this a story about once a warfare between Britannia and Ireland. At that time, Britannia was still herd of tribes (Angles, Saxon, etc) and attempted to unite under one king. The fight against Ireland cost them so many lives, including Tristan’s parent. Later he was saved by one of the leader of the tribes. In the other hand, Isolde was the daughter of King of Ireland and from that point, you can guess that this is some sort of Romeo-Juliet epic love story. Yet I watched it anyway, since I’m a sucker for classic stories like these, hehehe. Also because the cast of those young princes are well-build and easy-in-the-eye, so yeah I love it. Tristan was played by James Franco and there this young man named Melot who is played by Henry Cavill. The young Tristan is also played by familiar face, Thomas Sangster. Overall, it’s a bit dragged with a bit sense of ‘sinetron’ but semuanya termaafkan karena tampang Tristan =D Ip Man I actually thought the title was pronounced a...

Moon Child

Image
Okay, so I watched this last night because I thought hell why not? This is Hyde and Gackt movie after all, and since there's so many things I read refer to this movie, it's gotta be an interesting watch session. It turned out to be exactly as I previously thought. An interesting watch. I like how the scenes were taken, even though the special effect is not as good as these days, but I enjoy it nonetheless. Please be warned that this post contains heavy spoiler. Moon Child is about a vampire named Kei (played by Hyde - L'arc en Ciel) who travel across time (not in Hiro Nakamura's way) and meet a young boy named Sho. Later this young boy grows up and become mafia-look-alike (played by Gackt) and they become close friends. Vampire Kei ended up being in friendship circle between five people, four guys and one girl. Since their friendship is surrounded among mafia world, then there's no surprise when one by one those five people eventually died. I almost expected this is...

Twilight the movie

Image
First thing I noticed is (obviously) the absolutely ridiculous amount of make up that the Cullen family wears. What happen with all special effect team that supposedly getting better along these years? Even I could point out blank that Edward Cullen is wearing too much white powder he almost looks like a transvestite. Geez. It really turned off the mood so I made up my mind to comment out as much as I can during the whole movie. Jasper Cullen actually looked like Justin Timberlake (the hair!) with Charlie Chaplin character (except when they're playing baseball, he looked cool in that cap) with his being silent and stiff. Yes I know Jasper is supposedly become this empathy strong character but I don't get that in the movie. It doesn't even being explained, so newbie could only assume this Jasper guy is just another weird vampire. Neeways, the utmost mockery scene was when, out of nowhere, Bella suddenly felt in love with Edward the vampire. Uh, hello, their interaction is b...

Tropic Thunder

Image
What happens when you put Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, Nick Nolte, Tom Cruise, and Matthew McConaughey all in one movie? Well, apparently something called Trophic Thunder. It's somehow a slapstick-comedy-action sort of movie btw. First of all, this sort of movie is not into my liking. So I skipped it to the very end of the movie, the part where co-stars playing in it are being showed. Jreng jreng, then I was amazed at those bunch of names so I forced myself to actually watch it. It's still ridiculous movie, but I love Tom Cruise there, he's been barely recognized as himself, if it wasn't for the title under his face that read "Tom Cruise", I would've not noticed. Hell, he's so different, and he's so norak, bo! He looks like the guy playing Veronica Mars' dad in Heroes. Heck, I forgot the real name of Veronica Mars character, and heck I even forgot her name in Heroes. Sue me. Anyway, Trophic Thunder is about some Vietnam war's ...
